Good News, Everyone!

Bacon Fest NY‘s facebook page hasn’t formally announced Bacon Fest NY 2013, but suggests that fans of the salty cured meat block off July 13 and 14 on their calendars.

We got there early enough last year to try lots of bacon-y products. Hopefully this year will be bigger and better.

ETA: I heard today that it will unfortunately not be returning to Hudson, and instead will be part of the Troy Pig Out. That’s probably for the best, since it’s my understanding that one of the reasons why it was such a flop last year was because vendors were wary about being part of a festival that might not be particularly well attended.

Hudson Winter Walk 2012

Winter Walk 5

The 16th Annual Hudson Winter Walk was this weekend. It’s truly one of the best things Hudson does, which is a really big deal because they do a lot of things really, really well.

Winter Walk 14

We came, we saw, we winter walked. We saw lots of kids, lots of music, and lots of diverse celebrations of wintertime.

Winter Walk 25

To appropriately fuel our walking, we stopped for dinner at Park Falafel. So good.

Winter Walk 24

We passed by a group of carolers, lead by HCSD Middle School music teacher Jerry Cordato.

Winter Walk 23

Next up is Mr. and Mrs. Claus, hanging out at home.

Winter Walk 6

Many of the storefronts had displays, such as this dancing couple.

Winter Walk 16

and this lady whose dress had ladies on it doing the can can. Very cute.

Winter Walk 9

This African drumming group drew a big crowd (and gave Scott a couple of ideas for next years’ band camp..)

Winter Walk 15

The Taconic Hills Jazz Ensemble played inside the DMV.

Winter Walk 18

And we saw not one..

Winter Walk 2

.. but TWO groups with a dulcimer.

Winter Walk 1

Of Interest

The Hawthorne Valley Farm Store just announced on its Facebook page that it will be carrying some packaged items from Park Falafel, including their pita bread, falafel balls, baba ghannouj, and baklava.

Scott and I do most of our food shopping at Hawthorne Valley and always kvetch about the distance to drive to Hudson when we crave Park Falafel’s food, so this alliance is a good thing for us. Maybe not so much for our waistlines, but being Long Island transplants, sometimes the craving for a good knish (or macaroon, or slice, or falafel) is is strong.

We’re also big fans of Park Falafel as a local business and community contributor – they helped Scott raise a couple hundred bucks for the HCSD band program last year. They’re a good bunch.
