Sorry for the radio silence – there are many posts in the hopper, but with Christmas and our trip to New Orleans coming up I simply haven’t had the time to process photos and write. How do people do this full time?!
I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas, a super relaxing couple of days off, and a great New Year.
Follow along with me on Facebook where I’ll be posting updates about our trip and detailing my January Whole 30 experience. See you next year!
The RIght’s “School Choice” Scheme – Look out Hudson, you’re next: “While Friedman has promoted vouchers for decades, most famously in his masterwork Free to Choose, the story of how public funds are actually being transferred to private, often religious, schools is a study in the ability of a few wealthy families, along with a network of right-wing think tanks, to create one of the most successful “astroturf” campaigns money could buy. Rather than openly championing dismantling the public school system, they promote bringing market incentives and competition into education as a way to fix failing schools, particularly in low-income Black and Latino communities.”
John King: Common Core accountability is not new for students | GothamSchools – You should know what’s happening with testing in public schools in NY because it is profoundly stupid: ““Millions of students will be tested on a curriculum that was never supplied to their teachers,” Mulgrew told Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s education reform commission a week ago. “[This is] a storm that is headed right at us.””
Capitol Confidential » Women protest at Gibson’s office – Bless ‘em. “Several women protested outside Republican Rep. Chris Gibson’s Kinderhook office Tuesday afternoon.
“He has voted multiple times to not fund Planned Parenthood, which really provides health care for over 21 million women in this country. We have a real issue with that,” said Geraldine Denecke, a 57-year-old retiree from Niverville who claims the event was not coordinated with any other outside group. “He voted on the women’s domestic violence to approve the gutted legislation.””
Guest Post, Paleo For Women: Can You Be Healthy and Overweight? | Paleo Parents – Love this whole post. “This journey is about health, and about nourishment. When we’re doing absolutely everything we can to be nourishing, and we feel good, and we are relaxed, and have good blood markers for health, and we are not beating ourselves up for not living up to ideals and norms, then we are living exactly as we should be within the context of our own stories. This is something that means we are living magnificently, and of which we should be fiercely proud.”
Education in Last Night’s Debate « Diane Ravitch’s blog – Diane Ravitch, on the candidates: “When educators vote, they will have to look at other issues, not the one they know best. Neither of the candidates has a realistic vision of the damage that their policies–actual and proposed–are doing to the nation’s schools and children.”
Insisting Tax Cap Is Working, Cuomo Says Mandate Relief Already In Place – From the “just fire more people, ok?” files.. “Gov. Andrew Cuomo launched into a lengthy defense of the cap on local property tax increases at his cabinet meeting this afternoon, telling reporters and officials there that relief from burdensome required spending is already in place.”
