Before we went to the Hudson Valley Apple Fest on Monday, Scott and I stopped for brunch at The Cascades on Warren Street in Hudson. This little breakfast/lunch/coffee/pastry place has been serving hungry Hudsoners and visitors for over 16 years.
This place is a sandwich lover’s dream. So many delicious choices!
I had a mug of english breakfast tea served in a cute Hudson mug. (Where can I buy these?)
I got turkey, brie, apple, sprouts, and bacon with a creamy honey mustard on multigrain bread. They sandwiches come with kettle chips and a pickle. They really pile on the meat!
Scott got the special that day, which was warm chicken breast with a home made ranch dressing.
This place is cute and good. I want to go back and try the rest of the sandwiches! I had the egg salad with lox on a bagel once and it was heavenly. Yum. They also serve really good coffee and have a nice selection of cakes, pastries, muffins, and other sweet treats.

When I worked in Hudson I was eating at Cascades frequently until the quality dropped off for a while and I haven’t been back now in quite some time. I don’t know what was going on but they were assembling sandwiches that were impossible to eat (sloppily put together, etc. – it was just one of those things where three times in a row I had to eat a sandwich with a fork which gets frustrating – ha!). I do want to get back there, though. The variety on their menu is nice (venison salami!) and they do tend to use better quality ingredients.
That is frustrating! A well proportioned sandwich is important. My sandwich was certainly large but I didn’t have too much trouble stuffing it in my face.
